Companies using CloudBees for CI/CD achieved a three-year net present value of $30.9 million in savings through automation, standardization, increased productivity, and scalability
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – April 2, 2024 – CloudBees, the leading software delivery platform for enterprises, today released the findings of a Forrester Consulting Total Economic Impact™(TEI) study completed in March 2024, showing that a composite CloudBees customer achieved a 426% return on investment (ROI) over three years, and realized a net present value of $30.9 million. The study was commissioned by CloudBees.
The study analyzed the potential economic impact of using CloudBees for continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) in a composite organization based on an aggregate of six CloudBees customers. The customers represented leading organizations in the financial services, technology, pharmaceutical, hospitality, business services and transportation industries.
“Our average time for application deployment saw a 2x to 3x decrease under CloudBees. That’s a big chunk of money, and those are dollars that have been reinvested into the company.”
– Director of DevOps, hospitality company
Used as a set of practices and tools, DevOps helps integrate and automate the work of software development (Dev) and IT operations (Ops) as a means for improving and shortening the software development life cycle. Faster time to market and more frequent deployment of new functionality leads to competitive advantages, agility, and improved customer experience.
“There used to be a very involved, manual process of getting changes approved…Every day, 100-plus people joined a call that lasted for an hour. Now with CloudBees CD integration, we can initiate changes and get those approvals automatically. Right there, it’s a cost savings and a better user experience overall.”
- Director of DevOps, hospitality company
The organizations interviewed by Forrester said that prior to CloudBees, they struggled with:
A lack of standardization, stability, and scalability in their software delivery processes.
Frequent outages, which idled developers for hours at a time.
Routine processes, such as requesting predeployment approvals or creating credentials for new users, were time-consuming manual tasks.
Teams were siloed, with each team using its own processes and customized tools.
Finally, lack of standardization created governance challenges.
The composite company, representing an aggregate of the six organizations interviewed by Forrester, is a large financial services company with $25 billion in annual revenues, 3,000 CI/CD developers, and about 300 teams. The Forrester study showed that over a three-year period the composite CloudBees customer realized:
Improved stability of the software delivery pipeline, drastically reducing the frequency, duration, and impact of system outages. After one year, lost developer hours as a result of these outages were reduced by 99%, saving more than $4.5 million. Over three years, this was worth more than $10.6 million.
Automated pre-deployment preparation and approval processes, which used to involve several people for several hours for each of the 20,000-plus deployments per year. This reduced the organization’s annual pre-deployment costs by 70% in Year 1. Over three years, this was worth $27.5 million.
Other unquantified benefits that provided value were enhanced product quality, increased flexibility and innovation, better user experience, and improved security processes.
Significant benefits over three years: Savings of $38.2 million versus costs of $7.3 million, adding up to a net present value of $30.9 million, and an ROI of 426%.
“The Total Economic Impact study underscores CloudBees' pivotal role in transforming software delivery economics,” said Anuj Kapur, CEO, CloudBees. “Our platform not only accelerates software delivery but also instills robustness and scalability into the fabric of enterprise IT. This signifies a major leap in operational efficiency and strategic reinvestment for our clients, marking a new era in continuous integration and continuous delivery."
