Our brand new shiny, unsoiled, solutions architect - Cyrille (he is both French and always unreasonably well dressed) has built some Grails starter clickstarts that get grails developers going on the right foot.
They are available from the usual clickstart menus as well (one is more of a skeleton app, the other is the pet clinic demo app) - both use databases bound to the app correctly etc.
